The Virtual Show Must Go On

In-real-life trade fairs may be mothballed for a while, but that doesn’t mean that hooking-up with friends, colleagues and customers old and new is out the window. 7

On 28th October the digital doors will be opening on the soft launch of The Jewellery App Connect’s inaugural Virtual Trade Show – ahead of the official launch in February 2021. Here’s a taster of products and services visitors can expect to discover along the aisles.

BETTER WORLD

OUR ULTIMATE MISSION IS TO CREATE REAL DIAMONDS, IMPROVING ON MOTHER NATURE AND IN THE PROCESS, MAKING THIS A BETTER WORLD.

Green Rocks was founded in Aventura, Florida in 2016 by a visionary group of high tech entrepreneurs in partnership with some of Israel’s finest diamond cutters. Their vision… to bring technology and old world diamond cutting craftsmanship together to create the world’s finest lab created diamond. By combining the diamond needs of high technology together with the needs of the jewellery industry, the company gets virtually 100 percent utilisation of diamond production. There is no waste.

Because Green Rocks is a totally vertically integrated company it controls the quality of every diamond from the first molecule of carbon to the

sale and delivery of the finished diamond to fine jewellers around the world. From its laboratory, to its cutting factory, to its retailers, the diamond never leaves its hands. This gives Green Rocks an enviable level of quality control and “a better diamond for a better world”.

At the TJA-Connect show the company will be introducing its lab-grown diamonds buying service, offering a value proposition that creates the opportunity for consumers to enjoy a larger, much higher colour and clarity diamond than they could possibly afford with a mined diamond.

Designer Olivier Klompkes was motivated to exhibit for two strong reasons. Yes, the cancellation of physical trade fairs due to Covid put paid to his excitement over plans to launch his collection in the UK… a stand had been booked, but he had other ambitions. “The jewellery trade is always looking for something original and new and I firmly believe that this is what I have to offer,” he explains.

Olivier Jewellery presents a collection of hand-blown glass jewellery using the old traditional Venetian techniques. Inspired by the beauty and allure of nature through the medium of glass, the designs’ lines are simple, elegant and timeless.  All the pieces are one-of-a-kind, created with high quality materials – borosilicate glass, fine silver and gold, each jewel accompanied by a wide sterling silver choker.

“Fair enough… glass jewellery has been around for centuries,” adds Klompkes, “but this beautiful trade – the art of glass blowing – has been very much forgotten and I'm determined to bring it back to the forefront by mixing the old Venetian techniques with today's exciting new ones.” I'm hoping to connect with jewellery suppliers that have great flair and vision in order to create long lasting business relationships. I’m so grateful that TJA Connect came to the rescue with this excellent idea.”

NINETEEN48

While Stuart Pool of Nineteen48 is naturally looking to connect with new customers, he is especially keen to meet people across the industry who care about the sourcing of their jewellery materials. The company offers responsibly mined and fully traceable coloured gemstones from a number of carefully selected sources around the world, primarily Sri Lanka and Tanzania. “We can supply sapphire and ruby, as well as a wide range of other gemstones including aquamarine, garnet, spinel, amethyst, tourmaline, moonstone, chrysoprase, quartz, citrine, zircon, opal and topaz,” explains Pool.

Selling mainly to UK and overseas trade customers, Nineteen48 supplies everything from individual gemstones to large quantities of gems for wholesale or retail. “We aim to provide a competitive and affordable product, as well as a fair return to our partners,”

he adds. “When you buy gems from us, you have the peace of mind that your jewellery will be made with a stone that is guaranteed ‘conflict-free’ and conforms to the principles of full disclosure and fair trade.”

The company is also a commercial enterprise with a social conscience. “It was always our intention to build a company that could contribute actively to charitable and community projects in the countries in which we operate. With the help of our customers, partners and supporters we’re making a positive impact on the lives of people in these countries and to ensure that they have a fair share of the profits derived from their labours.

“I think all online activities are going to be an increasingly important part of our business and our industry,” he adds. “It’s important to support people who are trying to help people connect at this time, when our normal face-to-face methods have been impacted so badly by the pandemic. However, even under normal circumstances, for a global business like mine, it’s essential to give my clients maximum opportunity and flexibility to engage with me and I can see that this kind of virtual event and similar activities are things that we should all embrace.”

Zeemou Zeng is an innovative, premium and cutting-edge designer jewellery brand. Founded in 2017, the eponymous label specialises in distinctive contemporary fine jewellery and modern luxury crystal. The award-winning designer combines the traditional with the modern to create directional pieces – that can be worn by men or women – that have a chic-androgynous aesthetic. The hallmark of a Zeemou Zeng piece is the playful movement of gemstones.

His first collection – Melody – explores unique gemstone setting possibilities. Originally set with pearls each 18ct gold piece incorporates a movement mechanism – the pearls slide to create new looks but also a different ‘tune’ according to the length of the tube used. Today the designs also feature gemstone beads such as onyx or lapis.

The Eye is Zeemou’s new collection. Equally playful, each piece is designed with an eye, in which the central stone turns from front to back and the colour changes due to a different stone being set on each side. The collection of rings, brooches, earrings and pendants is worked in 18ct gold with diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, amethysts and onyx.

Before completing jewellery making and designing courses in London, Zeemou studied interior design and architecture and his imagination and fresh, independent spirit has also translated into a collection of luxury crystal glasses, inspired by the cut of gemstones. Becoming a global lifestyle brand is in his sights.

Neil Oakford of Zest was prompted to come on board the show to support the idea and help try and get it off the ground. “It’s a great innovative idea for the industry to connect with each other, especially in light of the cancellation of the various UK and global trade shows,” he says. He’s hoping to connect with the trade as a while – any retailer or manufacturer that requires a cost-effective marketing and design service.

Zest provides design solutions across the total marketing mix that are “on brief, on time and on budget”. Its comprehensive range of marketing services covers everything from strategic planning, advertising, product catalogues and digital media, through to PR, sales promotions and exhibition management.

“We have great experience of the jewellery industry having worked in it for the past 20 years providing marketing support for the NAJ (formerly The N.A.G. ) which included publishing the members magazine ‘The Jeweller’ from 2001 until 2017. We currently enjoy a long-standing relationship with Gem-A, designing and producing their two trade magazines – ‘Gems& Jewellery’ and the ‘Journal of Gemmology’.  We also provide a creative service to both ‘Tankel Diamonds’ and ‘VM&Events’, designing brochures and advertisements as part of their marketing support.

Jewellers and suppliers need a forum

The trade is crying out for an event they can support with the cancellation of all the exhibition center based shows. Jewellers and suppliers need a forum to meet, place orders and understand changes in the industry. Being a cloud based business it fits neatly with those who would access us via this event and who understand the huge benefits of hosted cloud services.

Daniel Clarke - Jewelmaster Tweet

JewelMaster software puts the full range of EPOS and back office functionality into the reach of all retail jewellers. “A jeweller no longer requires deep pockets to get everything from repairs and specials, to aged stock and sales by supplier reports,” explains Daniel Clark of Ryba Macaulay.

The software is designed to work with the full range of jewellery businesses, from those who want to retain their hand written invoices (just use the BackOffice), through to those who wish to automate their tills with touch screen technology (add in EPOS). As it has multi-store functions (add in Multi Store), it can easily handle those who have a number of outlets.

At the show the company will introduce the new Appointments addition, responding to demand in the face of Covid-19 restrictions.

“We’ve added as much functionality as it required to support the needs of our customers” said Viv Burrows, technical director. “Either directly on the Calendar or via existing Special or Repair record, a user can add an appointment for a customer. A user would choose the date for the appointment and insert a Start Time. By clicking on one of the four preset time slots (30min, 60min, 90min or 120min), the system will insert an End Time. If needed, an automated email can be sent directly to the customer as the appointment is created. We know dates and times change, so this unique type of calendar entry does allow a user to change dates and times and re-send the appointment email”
