TJA-Connect start live testing of Augmented Reality
The Jewellery App-Connect (TJA-Connect) has become the first B2B jewellery marketplace to role out Augmented Reality in its fast-growing supplier business directory and wholesale e-commerce site.
Augmented reality, often abbreviated to AR, refers to a simple combination of real and virtual worlds. It’s where technology ‘augments’ an image of a jewellery piece over a real person, which is then captured on video or camera so it appears that the person is wearing it.
“AR is such an exciting area of technology for the trade and our business services, but providing a direct route to market for suppliers and retailers to find each other is only part of the solution. We have to provide a way for buyers to connect with both the seller and the product and AR is perfect for this,” says Daren Daniels co-founder of TJA-Connect.
In a recent major update, the site has removed the need to buy online to bring ROBO (research online, buy offline) at the heart of its vision in order to meet the needs of the trade to touch and feel products as well as getting to know the person and company they are buying from.
Technology is driving a change in the buying process from supplier to retailer and AR adds to the experience for potential buyers and will encourage dialogue and increase sales. According to Forrester Research, B2B ecommerce will drive $1.8 trillion in revenue by 2023. Given this, together with over 50% of the world’s e-commerce transactions taking place on marketplaces like TJA-Connect, maybe it’s time to start thinking about how retail jewellery and buyers are going to find you, the supplier, rather than how you are going to get yourself in front of them.
This kind of technology opens up many new ways of engagement in B2B, as well as reducing the cost of samples for manufacturers and suppliers, by using AR to present new product ranges. It gives agents a way to reduce the range they carry and show when visiting a retail store, as well as further encouraging online transactions whilst viewing these new sample ranges, which also offers other efficiencies and in turn reducing the impact on the environment.
It’s a very exciting time for the jewellery trade and technology; part of the future is here now. With other developments in the pipeline, TJA-Connect is looking forward to supporting retailers buy and import direct with previously unseen efficiencies and resources.
